Society of Product Licensors Committed to Excellence (SPLiCE)
Vision: To continuously improve brand licensing.
Mission: We are a community of licensors who share best practices for protecting, promoting and enhancing brand integrity.
SPLiCE is a trade organization founded as a best practice think-tank for trademark brand licensors. SPLiCE was founded in 2004 with the vision to continuously improve brand licensing. Our goal in carrying out our mission is to act responsibly as a community of licensors who share best practices for protecting, promoting and enhancing brand integrity. As a Community of Best Practice, our benchmarking success is built upon our foundation cornerstones of legal, marketing and quality that support licensing initiatives. As a community, we encourage participation from our individual member legal, marketing and quality internal team members to embrace a full schematic of the intellectual property realm to protect the brand. Content discussed at our meetings is specific to process as we adhere strictly to antitrust policy guidelines.
As an active Community of Best Practice, we engage a kaleidoscope of brand protection knowledge from over 30 industries including aerospace, automotive, consumer products, construction, digital technology, electronics, entertainment & character, farming, fashion, food & beverage, footwear, health & beauty, juvenile products, lifestyle, publishing, racing, sports, sporting goods, toys & games, and trademark brands. Our Members have depth and brand reach within the consumer base and there is a strong affiliation to consumers seeing our members’ brand recognition on consumer products, services and goods.
Our members are composed of business and nonprofit organizations. Our over 40 member companies represent twenty-three percent (23%) of the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DOW), ten percent (10%) of Interbrand’s Top 100 Global Brands, and forty-one percent (41%) of Global License! Top 125 Global Brands (LICENSEMAG.COM). As licensors, our members currently have license agreements with over 2,000 licensee companies with sales of these licensed goods exceeding $30 billion. The brand name licensed consumer goods industry aligns brand equity with licensees to produce goods and services for consumers. More than seventy-percent (70%) of our SPLiCE Members license consumer goods globally with eighty-nine percent (89%) having a licensing program in existence for five years or more and ninety-three percent (93%) having two or more brands to license. Over eighty-percent (80%) of our members engage in licensing activities to seek metrics that will identify brand loyalty, consumer satisfaction, product quality and safety.
This year we will celebrate our 9th annual SPLiCE Licensors Workshop hosted at Biltmore in Asheville, NC. SPLiCE Licensors Workshop creates a unique venue that affords members an opportunity to speak with other licensors across industry lines who are all interested in brand protection and leveraging innovation via licensing. What makes this workshop successful is the participation by member licensors who understand the need for protecting their brands from brand dilution due to consumer dissatisfaction, poor quality, and product litigation. We focus the learning opportunities within licensing from a business risk management, legal and quality perspective.
